10 Tips to Boost Self-Confidence

Baby steps in the sand
“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble, but reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy.”
– Norman Vincent Peale

Being self-confident is a personal lifeline affirming your unique place in life.

The right to have and own your place with ease defines being self-confident. True self-confidence rests within us and is reflected outwardly as an easy presence giving those in your path a sense of connection.

Wouldn’t it be great if life dished out comfortable portions of confidence and ease to everyone?

Most of us deal with or have dealt with a lack of self-confidence around a specific area.

Gaining and growing self-confidence is an attribute available to everyone regardless of whether it is present or not at first.

If you are feeling stuck by fear, overwhelm, indecisiveness, or just need a refresh, check out the tips listed below for insight and tools to get you moving forward.

Here Are 10 Tips to Boost Self-Confidence.

  1. Replace Negative Self-Talk

Replace statements like, “I should,” “I can’t,” “I need to,” “If only,” “Why me,” with life-affirming words like, “I will,” “I want to,” “I am going to,” “I can,” or “I am.” When you change your internal language, you become more confident by doing so.

  1. Act Positive

Start by recognizing if you tend to operate with a negative outlook. And if so, counter it by noticing and appreciating what is good in your life and what you’re grateful for. This could be noticing and appreciating the weather outside, your tried and true friends, good health, solid employment, a supportive family, partner, or friend, etc.

  1. Take Baby Steps

Set one small realistic goal you want to achieve.  Go easy! Take it step by step. For instance, if your goal is to run a 5k and you are currently sedentary, create the habits and patterns needed to achieve your goal by breaking it down into small “baby steps.” When done consistently, it will become a comfortable behavior with the glow of self-confidence!

Life is a series of baby steps along the way, and if you add up these tiny little steps you take toward your goal – whatever it is – whether it’s giving up something, a terrible addiction or trying to work your way through an illness. When you total up those baby steps you’d be amazed over the course of 10 years, the strides you’ve taken.

  1. Know Yourself to the Core

When we know ourselves from the inside out, we have a foundation from which to stand. If self-exploration is new to you, start by sitting in a quiet space, taking time to reflect on your inner talk from a curious and kind space. Study these thoughts as a means of understanding who you are, or “your own life story as this is today.” What are your preferences, core beliefs, and personal values? Ask “why” after each response until you find the end of your responses.

  1. Create A Personal Positive Affirmation or Mantra

Create a mantra or statement distinctly for you that affirms what you want to become and be. Affirmations are positive statements that you create. Little by little, when read, said aloud, or thought upon consistently, your affirmation helps you overcome and replace negative self-talk for positive thoughts.

  1. Join Your Local Toastmasters Club

In cities and towns large and small, this humble and supportive club is there to help you learn how to speak out, communicate clearly, and become a leader. Becoming a Toastmasters International Club member equals self-confidence growth.

  1. Master A New Skill

When you learn to do something previously unknown, you gain and own more self-confidence in who you are and what you are capable of becoming. This skill can be something along the lines of creating a small daily routine for weekday mornings or learning a new language. Learning something new cultivates independence which then deepens the self-confidence for expanding the scope of your life. One small win will create a positive ripple of so much more.

  1. Find A Role Model

Having a role model, whether a close friend, a colleague, or a celebrity, is a great way to boost your self-confidence, by emulating the person whose positive attributes you find inspiring.

  1. Just Do It

An easy way to grow and increase confidence is simply by doing something you personally enjoy. When you take action on your behalf by tending to your needs, good things happen within, and confidence increases as a result.

  1. Give Yourself Healthy Attention

Believe in yourself. Remember, you too, are worth the same care and attention that you give to others. When you tend to acknowledge yourself, you will naturally boost your feel-good meter, while influencing others to do the same for themselves.
