4 Ways to A Prescription-Free World

The physical body is an incredible machine. It’s far more advanced than we’ll ever understand.

But like a machine, if it’s taken care of and treated with kindness, it will last for decades. On the contrary, a machine that is ignored, overworked, and abused, will wear out far too early.

In a prescription-focused world, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that we may be able to heal our bodies with natural, holistic options instead of the “easy fix” that seems to be more accessible than ever before. Instead of heading to the doctor for a prescription, what if we first analyze the root cause of our pain and discomfort?

While medication is sometimes the best answer, natural, non-prescription treatments are more often exactly what’s needed to heal from the inside out.

After all:

  • Pharmaceutical companies are in this business to make a profit first.
  • Many ingredients are proprietary to the pharmaceutical company which means we never know exactly what’s in our medications.
  • Medications are most often prescribed to treat the symptom, not the root cause.

You have one body in this life. It’s time to take care of it and make it last as long as possible.

Your body is your temple. Keep it pure and clean for the soul to reside in.

Here Are 4 Ways to A Prescription-Free World:

1.           Exercise

Your body was made to move. From lifting to running, to stretching and bending. It’s important to stay active. Get up and move every day, even if it’s just a walk around the block. Stretch those muscles. Breathe the fresh air. If you sit all day, stand for a while. If you tend to hunch forward, lay with your shoulders and back flat to the floor to counter-balance.

When you work hard and have sore muscles, don’t instinctively reach for the painkillers. Ask yourself instead if there are exercises or stretches you could be doing to balance out what hurts.

If you’re able, make it a point to work in some form of cardio exercise each week. Get your heart pumping and your blood flowing. You’ll feel more awake, more alert, and more responsive. You’ll be amazed at what consistent movement can do for the health of your body as a whole.

2.           Nutrition

We all know we’re supposed to give up junk food. Yet we all have our vices. Make healthy eating a top priority. Choose natural foods that give you longer-lasting energy instead of salty, sugary foods that give you false, short-lived energy.  Don’t even buy the chips and the cookies and the soda. Find natural substitutes for your cravings. Natural foods increase your digestive system, the quality of your skin, hair, and nails, and a boosted immunity system.

There are countless studies that prove what a natural, organic diet can do when it comes to lessening the effect of disease – or in some cases eliminating it together. It’s been said that almost 70% of our immunity is based on a healthy gut. And obesity, diabetes, and even some forms of cancer have all but disappeared with healthy food habits and a bit of persistence.

3.           Mindfulness

It’s no secret that anxiety and depression are on the rise. Instead of defaulting to drugs, lean into the root of the problem. If you’re living a life of stress, it may be time to eliminate the problem areas. Jobs, friends, relationships, family… all of these things can cause undue stress in our lives, and all can often be solved with an increase in communication. Take care of yourself first and listen to your body.

Even if stress isn’t your biggest worry, it’s important to keep your mind active. Consider learning a new skill or taking up a new hobby each year. It’s never too late to go back to school or take a class at your local community college, or another local organization. Meet new people. Interact with your community. Keep your mind fresh and active and you’ll feel more alert and focused. Not to mention, you’ll feel like a far more interesting person to be around.

4.           Rest

Just like your body needs to move and be challenged and pushed once in a while, it also needs time to rest and recuperate. Set aside time to sit still and relax. Take vacations – no matter how small or short. Read quietly read on your own or find some other way to be calm and quiet for a while.

Listen to your body, treat it well and keep it clean. If you are suffering or broken, find help. Look to nature, look to friends, look to your community. First look within before looking to prescriptions, medication, and other non-natural substances. You’ll be amazed at what we can do with what we’ve been given on this earth.
