Chakras – Your Body’s Secret Energy Pathway: Keeping With the Flow

The Sacral or Svadhishthana in Sanskrit, represents Creativity, Sexuality, and Inspiration. Located in your lower belly it is symbolized by an orange 6 petaled flower with a crescent moon representing the relationship between the tides of water and the phases of the moon.

Governed by the element of water, Svadhishthana allows us to sense our feelings and the feelings of others, supporting our ability to sustain relationships

When our Sacral Chakra is cleansed and balanced our creative juices flow easily, and you can feel the joy emerging from within.

The Bija or Seed Mantra for Svadhishthana is “VAM”

Are You Out of Balance?

Svadhishthana rules our appendix, kidneys, digestion, our reproductive and sexual organs. Stress, conflict, and illness can all cause an imbalance in your chakras. This imbalance can make you feel emotionally and physically destabilized, causing your mind, body, and spirit to suffer.

If you are experiencing some or all these symptoms, this may be a sign that your Sacral Chakra is out of balance.

  • Lower back pain or discomfort
  • Joint pain or Arthritis
  • Problems with intimacy
  • Feel a disconnect with your emotions

How to Balance and Cleanse your Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is highly influenced by the element of Water. Spending time outside near a lake, river, ocean, or even a long bath or shower can be highly restoring.

The Sacral Chakra is the center of our passion and creativity, so spending time exploring hobbies, new and old, such as dancing, or drawing can create a harmonious flow of energy.

Hip-opening Yoga poses such as The Crescent and Squat poses, are wonderful to help with clearing the Sacral Chakra. As you hold each yoga pose, breathe deeply and slowly, envisioning your passion and creativity, blooming, and flowing freely.

The essence of water is linked to our Sacral Chakra. In addition to drinking more water, it is recommended that you introduce foods that are Orange, like Tangerines, Mangoes, Carrots, Pumpkin, and Squash.

Essential Oils such as Ylang Ylang, Neroli, Orange, Sandalwood, and Jasmine promote joy and creativity and are effective in clearing any stagnant or blocked energy that we may be holding on to.

Healing crystals are an amazing tool to help clear and balance our Sacral Chakra. Their unique energy magnifies and transforms energy. Carnelian, Tigers Eye, Amber, Citrine, Sunstone, and Moonstone just to name a few, are wonderful tools for maintaining our connection and flow.

Svadhishthana (Sacral) Chakra Meditation

This short meditation as a daily practice will help you maintain your creativity and inner flow.
Sitting in a comfortable position, close your eyes and take several deep breaths allowing your shoulders to relax. Now visualize the beautiful six-petaled orange flower just below your navel, see it blooming and growing with each breath in and out. When you feel ready, begin chanting the Bija or Seed Mantra “VAM” seven times continuing to breathe in and out expanding your awareness. Feel your connection to your inner joy and envision your creativity expanding with each breath. Continue breathing in and out as you slowly open your eyes, and repeat three times “I am joy, I am creative, I am inspiring.”

Take your time and enjoy these practices. Keeping Svadhishthana in balance expands our value and worth, keeping us connected with our identity and expression of self. Having this free-flowing connection allows us to pursue our dreams, and take risks, so we can expand and connect with our true selves.

In the next article, we will be focusing on exploring the Solar Plexus, the third chakra in the body. It is responsible for our digestive system, confidence, motivation, and self-esteem

Until then, keep practicing!

Namaste,
