The Wellness Universe directory is a resource and community filled with Change-Makers, we call WU World-Changers (Wellness Universe World-Changers). Today we want to introduce you to our member, Gloria Grace Rand.
Hello Gloria, will you please tell us about yourself?
Growing up, my main interests were revolved around reading, writing, and television. So, it was only natural that I got my bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, and began a career in television working for the PBS national news program, Nightly Business Report. During my career with NBR, I learned the ins and outs of TV news production, advancing from character generator operator, to associate producer/writer, and finally, to a producer. That experience helped sharpen my writing skills which I’ve put to good use in my business, writing web copy for small businesses and service professionals.
Gloria, what is it that inspires you?
I get inspired by nature. I love being near the ocean. There’s something about the sight and sound of waves pounding the shore that just puts me at ease and allows me to clear my head and open my mind to new possibilities. I’m also inspired by God. Whenever I’m feeling stuck for new ideas, I spend a few minutes in quiet meditation; I ask my angels for help, or I simply go for a walk and focus on my surroundings, and soon after the solution I need or a new idea will come to me.
Will you please tell us what you call yourself and explain what it is that you do?
I have a few different titles, including Speaker, Online Visibility Mentor and Health Coach. My primary business is helping service professionals create or improve their online messaging so they more easily attract the clients they want to serve.
How exactly does that help someone?
I’ve worked with clients whose home page focused on how great they are at what they do. While your prospects need to know you’re qualified to help them, the home page should be focused on WHAT you can do for your clients. A web visitor needs to know you have the solution to their problem and they need to be able to see that right away. Otherwise, they’ll find someone else who can help, costing you a sale in the process.
Why are you so passionate about online visibility?
The online space is so cluttered and crowded. It’s not easy for small business owners to stand out from the competition. I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction knowing the work I’ve done for someone has helped them increase their sales.
Did any specific life experience prompt you to follow this path?
When the Great Recession hit in 2008, PBS lost government and corporate funding, and I lost my job at the Nightly Business Report. So, I had to reinvent myself. I invested in a home-study SEO Copywriting course, when I realized that businesses were moving online in a big way. I loved SEO copywriting because it allowed me to tap into both sides of my brain – the analytical one to determine the right keywords for a website, and the creative side to use those words in a way that motivates a web visitor to take action.
How long have you been doing this?
I’ve been in business for 10 years, but I started copywriting earlier than that – writing press releases and newsletters for my children’s elementary school. I just didn’t realize at the time that I could make money doing that kind of writing!
Will you share a story of how you have made a difference in someone’s life?
My client, Elizabeth Scarcella, once told me, “You have been able to capture the passion that I have for my business. You get who I am.” That warms my heart because I know many people are uncomfortable writing. That’s why I go the extra mile to learn about a client’s business and get to know their voice. This enables me to write content that sounds like the client is speaking directly to their prospect.
What’s next on the horizon for you?
I’m writing a book based on my Love Your Life workshop I conducted earlier this year. Those wanting to start a business or make owning a business fun again come to my live workshops as well as consult with me one-on-one. People have told me my programs help them focus on what’s important so they can grow their businesses more effectively.
Thank you so much for sharing today, Gloria! Do you have any final thoughts?
You have a gift to share with people, so make sure they can easily find you online!
