A Conversation with Rachel Frederick –

Marketing Coach at The Well-Balanced Business.

The Wellness Universe directory is a resource and community filled with Change-Makers, we call WU World-Changers (Wellness Universe World-Changers). Today we want to introduce you to our member, Rachel Frederick.

  1. Hello Rachel, will you please tell us about yourself?

Hello! I’m a mother of two young ladies, I’m married to my high school sweetheart, and I enjoy far too many hobbies to keep track of. I’m in constant learning mode and want to try pretty much everything once. For a long time, I thought my desire to move from activity to activity was because of a lack of commitment, but I’ve come to realize it’s a great asset. I’ve found some hobbies that I may not have previously tried and more importantly, met some amazing people that I never would have otherwise met. It’s been quite the journey that has brought me to today where I run an online business helping small business owners in the health and wellness industry hone-in on what makes them marketable.

  1. Rachel, what is it that inspires you?

I’m inspired every day by passionate people who are out there making a real difference in people’s lives. People have fabulously interesting stories if you take the time to listen.

  1. Will you please tell us what you call yourself and explain what it is that you do?

Of course! I’m a marketing coach for small business owners. I choose to focus on the health and wellness industry because of the number of passionate, well-intended, honest people.

  1. How exactly does that help someone?

So many people start their health or wellness businesses wanting to change lives but have little to no marketing experience. I’ve seen it happen time after time where a yoga studio opens in a great part of town with original class offerings, but can’t keep the doors open because they don’t know how to articulate what makes them different. Same with therapists, nutritionists, and mindfulness coaches… If you don’t know who you’re talking to or what they are looking for, there’s a good chance your business won’t stay open for more than a couple of years. My goal is to be there as a sounding board offering advice, guidance, and best practices for anyone confused or overwhelmed by all of the options out there right now for marketing a small business so they can keep their doors open.

  1. Why are you so passionate about small business marketing?

I believe that the majority of people who start businesses in the health and wellness industry have amazing things to share with the world. They just need a little guidance and encouragement to keep going when times get rough. And I love seeing people push themselves past those hurdles and succeed in a really big way. It’s as rewarding for me as it is for them.

  1. Did any specific life experience prompt you to follow this path?

I’ve lived a relatively health-focused life since the beginning. I am lucky to have had parents who were passionate about eating homegrown, healthy, local food, and believed in the effectiveness of using natural healing methods when it made sense. We were always encouraged to think bigger, troubleshoot our own problems. And I’m a big believer in the idea that in order to be a good person you should surround yourself with good people. This business has proven to be a great way to do that.

  1. How long have you been doing this?

It’s definitely been a journey. I worked in the corporate marketing world for about 8 years, have been part of business auditing teams, and really geek out on marketing and business strategy. It was about five years ago that I decided to take my marketing skills to the freelance copywriting world, but soon realized I missed the strategy and person-to-person interaction. I’ve been focusing on small business coaching for almost two years now.

  1. What’s next on the horizon for you?

I’m looking forward to growing my community of small business owners so we can all learn from and support each other’s marketing wins and stumbles. I also run a program called The Wellness Marketing Tribe that breaks down the marketing process over the course of 12 months. By the end of the year, everyone comes away with a full marketing plan. I’m really excited by the progress this Tribe is making and hope to keep adding to it for years to come!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing today, Rachel! Do you have any final thoughts?

Just that we all have talents to share. If you’re not confident in what you have to offer, join communities like the Wellness Universe and take tiny actionable steps each day toward some goal, any goal.  You’ll be amazed by what you can accomplish in a few short months with a little bit of support.
