The Wellness Universe (WU): Hello Tafiq, please tell us about yourself and what inspired you to write your chapter in the book The Wellness Universe Guide to Complete Self-Care: 25 Tools for Life.

Tafiq Akhir (TA): Hello, I’m Tafiq Akhir, also known as Mr. Menopause, a licensed and award-winning menopause and healthy aging educator, speaker, author, and host. My journey into menopause education is deeply personal and was sparked by witnessing my mother’s struggle with menopause. She faced debilitating hot flashes, unexplained weight gain, and a host of health issues that severely impacted her confidence and well-being. Watching her suffer in silence without the menopause support or understanding she needed left a lasting impression on me.

Years later, as I built my career in health and fitness, I saw similar struggles in the women I worked with—women in midlife going through menopause and experiencing changes in their bodies without the answers or support they deserved. This realization drove me to specialize in menopause and healthy aging education, becoming certified and licensed to provide women with the tools, resources, and menopause support that my mother never had.

Writing my chapter in The Wellness Universe Guide to Complete Self-Care: 25 Tools for Life is an extension of that mission. I want to continue simplifying menopause awareness for women, helping them understand what’s happening in their bodies and take empowered, informed action. Menopause is often treated as a mystery, but through education, we can turn confusion into clarity and fear into confidence. My goal is to ensure no woman has to suffer in silence or feel unsupported during this natural phase of life.

WU: What tool do you share in this book, and what can we expect to experience as a result of using this tool?

TA: In my chapter, Simplifying Menopause Awareness, the tool I share is Tafiq’s Introductory Menopause Awareness Self-Assessment. This self-assessment is designed to help women discover their level of awareness regarding menopause and how it impacts their health, relationships, work, and overall quality of life.

By using this tool, you can expect to gain greater clarity about your personal menopause journey. The self-assessment guides you through common menopause symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and weight changes, helping you connect these symptoms to the hormonal changes your body is experiencing and how they affect different areas of your life.

The result of using this tool is that it helps you discover your level of awareness related to how menopause is affecting your body and mind, empowering you to take informed, proactive steps toward managing your health and well-being. It shifts the experience from confusion and frustration to one of clarity and confidence, making it easier to explore practical solutions that help you thrive during menopause, not just survive it. Ultimately, the self-assessment provides the foundation for taking control of your menopause journey with clarity, ease, and empowerment in every aspect of your life.

WU: How does a man become an award-winning menopause and healthy aging expert?

TA: Becoming a menopause specialist as a man might seem unexpected, but for me, it was a natural evolution rooted in personal experience. It started with witnessing my mother’s intense struggle with menopause, which left a lasting impact on me. Her challenges—hot flashes, weight gain, and declining health—were compounded by the lack of understanding and menopause support available to her at the time. Watching her suffer in silence planted the seed for what has now become my life’s work: ensuring no woman has to go through menopause feeling confused, unsupported, or isolated.

When I later began my career in health and fitness, I encountered the same struggles in the women I trained. I quickly realized that not much had changed since my mother’s experience. This realization drove me to dive deep into hormone health, menopause education, and healthy aging. My mission has always been to simplify menopause, empower women with knowledge, and provide practical, real solutions to help them thrive during menopause—not just survive it.

As a man in this field, I bring a fresh perspective—one that’s rooted in empathy, education, and a deep commitment to making menopause an empowering experience for every woman I work with.
