So, you’ve done a lot of healing work, but you still feel like things should be going better. I’ve talked to a few people lately who’ve done all the ‘clearing’ and trauma work they can think of. Yet they’re still struggling.
Some might even feel ok emotionally, but they’re still dealing with gut pain every day…. Or when the moon is full. (Yes, that’s a Thing. And it’s not ‘ascension symptoms.’)
I can relate to feeling only kind-of ok, in spite of voraciously doing my personal work. Last year, I was in a coaching program where we dug up unhelpful subconscious beliefs. And we sort of shifted them. Mostly, I spent a lot of time feeling bad.
In one of the sessions, I was completely done. I was so tired of being in the manure pile, I was open in my rebellion against the practice. I was having a good day, and I refused to go back to feeling all woe-is-me.
Fortunately, my coach celebrated my rebellion. She supported me in up levelling my already positive state. It was a turning point for me, sort of….
There was still something missing for me. I needed to do more of that — MUCH more. My operating system was used to the old grumpy habit. I ended up going back and forth between the two states for several months. So, I’ve gone back to basics.
Here’s what I remembered:
The ego creates storms, and it loves trauma-drama. But you can use those storms as fuel for raising your consciousness. To do this, you need discernment.
It only takes 60 -90 seconds for the chemicals generated by a certain emotion to move through your system. After that, it’s your thoughts and beliefs that continue to generate more of the same. This is true whether the feeling is enjoyable or not.
When you dwell on your unhappiness, it also breeds more of the same. It’s important to get into the habit of dwelling on the feelings you want to have in your life. This is like going to the emotional gym. Let’s face it: It’s not easy to focus on feeling good when you’re used to feeling terrible—especially now, when we’ve all got the attention span of a gnat!
This part is important: You don’t spend time feeling bad because there’s something wrong with you. Even though your mind will try to convince you there’s something wrong with you. Did you know your cells have receptors for the chemicals that are present on a daily basis? If you haven’t felt crappy in a while, your cells want a fix (Yes, it’s a lot like an addiction).
There’s no question, it feels awful. But your body-mind doesn’t care about that; those hungry little hippos want what’s familiar. It takes time to develop receptors for the chemicals you’d rather feel.
Going cold-turkey on feeling bad is harsh and difficult to maintain. That’s why when you get all blissed out at retreats, nothing much changes afterward. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t bother. It means you need to implement your new practices into your regular life.
How do you create joyful pathways without bypassing?
DON’T
- Get caught up in mental stories and whip yourself up into a crisis.
- Go into Fix-It mode with yourself. That’s not how you heal. (Believe me, I’ve tested it thoroughly, and it doesn’t work!)
- Take it personally. The fact that you have a good mind and a functioning nervous system doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means you’re whole.
- Post about it, or vent to whoever’s closest.
DO
- Harness the power of your mind and use it to your benefit. You’re creating all day long, which isn’t always a good thing. If you’re doing it unconsciously, chances are, you’re not happy with what you’re creating.
You need to develop the stamina to hold the frequency of what you want to create.
If you ‘know all that’, are you doing it? If not, don’t make yourself wrong. Remember, it’s like building a muscle. Start doing ‘Happy Reps’, and keep your eye on the prize!
Happy Reps
What are ‘Happy Reps?’ They are moments throughout the day when you stop and notice what your mind is up to. And then, you generate something even better. It’s when you appreciate something simple and beautiful. It’s saying grace in a heartfelt way before a meal.
- Spend time every day cultivating a deep, blissful state. This is both a morning and evening practice. The quality of your sleep and the frame of mind you wake up to every morning depends on your state when you fall asleep.
- Be present with any uncomfortable physical sensations, and whatever emotional content comes up. Remember the 90-second rule, and keep your mind out of the process.
This is how you make sure you’re not bypassing anything. No sweeping the difficult feelings under the carpet. Witness as they subside in their own time.
I’m not going to show you here. Sometimes those long-standing physical sensations take longer than 90 seconds to shift. When you stay present to them without expectation, they’ll move as soon as they do.
Register for the Embodied Vision™ Masterclass: The Core Four.
Did you know there are four unhelpful core beliefs that can hinder your healing?
If you’ve taken these on, other healing work you do usually won’t create the lasting shifts you’re hoping for. Most people I’ve worked with have at least ONE of them activated. The good news is, light always accompanies the shadow.
In the Embodied Vision Method™, we always claim the gifts the subconscious is trying to give you. Once your body-mind knows you’re not going to lose the gifts, it unlocks and releases the blocks. You take the gifts and move toward your next adventure!
In this session, you will:
- Test each of the four core beliefs to find out which ones are active in your system.
- Release the systemic blocks associated with them.
- Create and install a beautiful, upgraded program. You can start implementing it in your life right away!
- Have lifetime access to the replay. Circle back and reinstall the positive program whenever old patterns reassert themselves.
It’s on Tuesday, June 17th at noon, MT (the replay will be available if you’re unable to attend live). You can register here.
These negative habits can be tenacious; I know that as well as anyone. And, you don’t always need more therapy to move beyond them.

Choosing joy on purpose—yes! That really landed for me, Holly. I love the idea of “Happy Reps” as a gentle, empowering way to shift our emotional state and create lasting change. It’s such a refreshing reminder that healing isn’t always about digging deeper—it’s often about intentionally reaching for what feels good and true.
