Trailblazing Wellness with Trish Reed

Welcome to Trailblazing Wellness with Trish Reed, Health/Wellness Coach/FDNP student and member of The Wellness Universe.

The Wellness Universe is a resource and community of amazing humans we call WU World-Changers! Our members are vetted teachers, therapists, transformational leaders, coaches, and guides who support well-being and help us further our vision of achieving global peace by way of happy, healthy, healed human beings through the work they do.

Today we want to introduce you to Trish Reed.

The Wellness Universe (WU): What is your mission?

Trish Reed(TR): To help everyone feel better than just good.

WU: Please tell us about yourself.

TR: Let’s see, I have 5 beautiful children—with the last one, my thyroid quit working. I gained weight, was sick all the time, and oh, so tired. I took OTC diet pills just to get out of bed in the mornings.

When I got blood test results, my doctor told me, ‘No more diet pills’ and put me on thyroid meds. Eventually my test results came back normal, but I still felt horrible.

I went through so many doctors looking for help, so many tests and medications, so many books and research, looking for anyone that had gone through what I was going through.

Eventually I found classes. I found that eating a low-carb menu worked to help me feel better, and if I added the carb cycling to that, I felt even better. Exercise helped with the achy joints and weight gain.

I want to help anyone who doesn’t feel well to feel their absolute best! Without having to go through what I went through or wait as long as I did to get answers on why they don’t feel well even though the tests are in the normal range.

Once certified as an FDNP (EOY 2024), I will be able to run tests that are frequently overlooked by a physician—tests that will provide a look inside the gut and internal systems—to see where there are deficiencies or issues—and then we, the client and myself, can look at supplements that can help either short- or long-term; we can discuss dietary adjustments and exercise.

As a NASM Personal Trainer, I can assist with a game plan to help improve flexibility, increase strength, and improve the cardiovascular system.

I am a kind of ‘One-Stop-‘Shop’—listener, motivator, educator, diagnostician, and trainer—all in one.

WU: What inspires you?

TR: I love talking with my clients and hearing how things have improved for them. This makes me want to reach more folks—to help everyone be healthy and happy—to feel good! Feeling good puts a smile on your face; smiles keep you happy; happy people make changes!

WU: Now that we know a bit about you, explain what it is that you do and how it helps people to be happy, healthy, and healed.

TR: As a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist Practitioner, I have the ability to order tests for my clients to see what’s happening in their gut. These are all tests that physicians have access to but rarely run because a doctor is looking for a cure or solution to what the problem is. I look, with my client, at test results, and we find what’s happening in the gut or sensitivities to food or other allergens, then we supplement and adjust their diet until things look better on their tests.

WU: How long have you been doing this work?

TR: I’ve been studying health and wellness for about 10 years. I’ve recently been in a position to actually step away from my accounting practice to do this. So I’m newer in the field, receiving my latest certificate in health and wellness coaching in May of 2024 and should be credentialed with my FDN-P by the end of 2024.

Why are you so passionate about health coaching/FDN-P?

TR: For years, I didn’t feel well, and yet the doctor continued to say that my numbers were within the normal range. He stopped helping me find a solution to feel good. As a working mother of 5 with school and sporting events most nights, I just knew there had to be a way to feel good and have the energy to make everything work. I went out on my own to figure it out. I know there are many others out there who are dealing with the same thing. I just want everyone to feel good!

WU: Was there a specific life experience that caused you to follow this path?

TR: I was always energetic and didn’t require much sleep. I was the one who always said, “Come on, you can sleep when you’re dead! Let’s GOOOOOO…” Then, I was the one who asked for naps; I was the one always sick or just not feeling well enough to go that extra mile. Then we found out it was my thyroid.

WU: Please share a story of how you have made a difference in someone’s life.

TR: I have worked with a few clients, but the one that sticks out the most is a lovely young lady who was very happy but overweight and continued to gain. She wasn’t really too concerned about it until she got a new job. Her clothes didn’t fit the way she wanted them to; she didn’t feel she looked professional, and her feet hurt in the afternoons because of afternoon bloat. She became my client, and we worked together for a few months. She dropped close to 50 lbs, has that new job, and is realizing that her efforts have made a huge difference in everything—her resting heart rate is lower, she’s walking further, and she’s doing scheduled exercises. Things are going very well for her in her life now!

WU: What would you say is your crowning achievement thus far?

TR: I’d say at this point in my new career—it’s my client I just mentioned! I just love helping people feel better, and she made a huge transformation!

What’s next on the horizon for you?

TR: I will continue to build my practice, help others feel good about themselves and make whatever transformations they want to make!

WU: Thank you so much for sharing today! Do you have any final thoughts?

TR: Anyone can feel less than 100% for any number of reasons —if you don’t feel well for more than a week or have any changes in your system, please reach out to someone to help you find what’s causing your issues and get them rectified. Sometimes it’s so simple to feel good and we just overlook it. It’s true that small changes can make a huge difference.

  1. Trish, I enjoyed learning more about your work and getting to the source of the health problem by running functional tests. I liked how you encouraged the readers that the solution can be a simple, small change that can make a huge difference and that it’s important for us to feel good.

    1. Thank you Janette

We really have a tendency to complicate things, don’t we? haha

Simple is the way to go.

Thank you again for your comment!
