We find ourselves living day in and day out wondering whether or not we have what it takes to keep going. We are tired, beaten down, sadly defeated, and without any hope of getting ahead in the world. We feel that this is as good as it is going to get. Wow, that is a depressing and a defeatist way of living. I am sure that it is also unhealthy in mind and body.
How do we dig ourselves out of this rut of negativity?
I would like to give you a few tips toward changing this way of life.
First, we should choose to live with purpose!
Second, we should choose to live with hope!
Third, we should choose to live with a positive attitude!
Fourth, we should choose to start by loving ourselves!
I thought long ago that I had to live in a box that others had put me in. This box was created by people, who decided to label me for their own self-image program; it really had nothing to do with who I was at that time. These labelers were filled with insecurities and had a need to define me and place me in some category that would make them feel better about themselves.
Have you ever heard people say they may be second-class citizens in society but that they are better than you? These people label others so they can feel or appear better. Labels are based on someone needing to feel better about themselves at the cost of hurting or putting down another human being. This is just plain wrong!
Rising above the labels imposed on you and realizing you are worthy to live an interesting and fulfilling life is necessary. Rising above what someone says you are and walking into the light of who you truly are puts you on the path of achieving mental and physical health. Yes, I added physical to that declaration. Please know that the stress of not realizing your best life and not cherishing it, leads to poor health in body and soul. The opposite leads to great health in body and soul.
Discovering your best life and learning to love yourself can also be achieved in choosing to give yourself the following gifts.
- Give yourself permission to be less than perfect and be okay with that
- Give yourself time to rest and reflect
- Give yourself credit for your talents and use them to build yourself up and dig yourself out of the rut you’re in
- Give value to who you are in the sum of all of your parts including your great attributes and your less than desirable traits
- Give yourself forgiveness
- Give yourself hope for your future and the promise of a better tomorrow
More importantly, choose to love who you were yesterday, who you are today, and who you will become tomorrow. Don’t hold yourself back in regret and the guilt of past mistakes. We all fall short of perfection. Love who you have become as a product of all you have been, the good and the not so good.
Allow yourself to find the joy of being unapologetically who you are and who will be. You will stand taller and be more courageous.
It takes courage to love yourself through it all.
We have all seen or experienced the wrath of someone who was abusive and abrasive. Many times, these people are this way because they walk around wounded and miserable. I think the root of their issue is that they have no love.
Loving yourself is beautiful and wonderful. It is not a negative thing. It is not a narcissistic thing. It is, in fact, of great importance. When you learn to love yourself, it gives you the capability of loving others well and completely. How can you love others well without first discovering the necessary life affirming way of loving yourself? You first have to know love before you can give love. Follow the tips above and give yourself to the power of love.
Loving yourself takes away the chains and boundaries of your life.
A life filled with love is a life of peace, joy, and endless possibilities.
Love gives you the power to be you with pride. No matter the challenging winds that may come your way, love gives you wings to navigate them. Once you discover the power of the love inside of you then nothing can stop you from achieving anything you set your mind to.
