Nothing in life is as constant and predictable as change. This may be good news if you like the particular change, or bad news if you hate it, but one thing is clear – change is a permanent fixture in our lives. You HAVE TO learn to deal with it, not by worrying and fretting, but by consciously building up your strength and resilience.

We are mostly NOT in control of the changes that come our way.  That’s what makes them so unwelcome. Sometimes I can stress out even at the thought of changes that haven’t happened yet, but could, even good ones.  That’s called fear and worry, and liking the rut I’m in.  At 73-going-on-74, I have lived at least 7 completely different lives – different casts of characters, different locations, different careers, different friends and family, different cultures and values. Everything changed many times to land me here. I have learned that there are good people and good experiences to be found everywhere, and always challenges to meet as well.

Just because we don’t know just what’s coming doesn’t mean we can’t be prepared. Not for the specific change – which we can’t see coming – but for the fact that disruptive change will occur. We can increase our RESILIENCE.

Here are a few Wellness Practices to build up your resilience:

Gratitude. Non-attachment. Love. Acceptance. Humor. Flexibility. Forgiveness. Self-esteem. Positive self-talk. Living in the NOW moment. Prayer and meditation. Affirmations.

Yes, there will be waves, maybe even some stormy seas, but you’ve GOT this!  These, as well as other wellness practices you are working on every day, can build the resilience you will need to ride the waves of change, instead of being bowled over by them.

Build up your resilience “muscles” and keep them strong. Never take them for granted, and life can be so much more fun!
